Condition
Overall in good condition. When viewed first-hand, the secretaire presents with lighter colors, overlall blonder than in the catalogue illustration. The surface of the wood veneers and structural frame with some surface scratches, minor abrasions, light discoloration and light surface dirt consistent with age and gentle use. The top with hairline craquelure to the clear varnish finish consistent with sun light and atmospheric impact. A few old wood worm holds scattered throughout the legs, not at all visually distractive and stable. The legs, stretcher and arched upper part of the desk with a green hue, visible in the catalogue illustration and most possibly the result of brass cleaning agent. The brass mounts with minor tarnishing consistent with rubbing and cleaning. The wood and fruitwood species chosen for this secretaire display with rich figuring and highly saturated color palette. A very delicate work by Benouville displaying a dynamic shape and beautiful execution.
