Condition

Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 25 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. All of these hairlines appear tight and stable. This is a relatively low number when taking into consideration the vast number of individual glass tiles required to execute this large and complex shade model. The shade leading appears to have been restored and stabilized in the past in several small isolated areas. While the glass appears harmonious throughout the shade, it is possible that some tiles in these areas have been replaced. The shade retains its original beaded border mount at the top aperture, as well as its original beaded border around the bottom shade rim. Along the bottom shade rim, there is a small area (4 ½ inches in length) where the beaded border is slightly loose and showing minor separation from the shade, with one small fracture to the beaded border. This small area appears to have been previously stabilized as there is evidence of old re-soldering. This is quite common on beaded borders, and if desired can be easily stabilized by a Tiffany restorer. The sockets and accompanying hardware appear to be old replacements, but produced in a manner aesthetically faithful to period Tiffany hardware. The upper rod and ceiling canopy with expected light surface wear. A beautiful example of this rare model, displaying a particularly artistic and naturalistic glass selection. The grape clusters encircling the shade show a wide range of hues, including rich purple, ultramarine blue, cobalt, magenta, red, pale pink and pale coral. The background passages are articulated in vigorously mottled and striated glass, heightening the visual interest and depth of the shade. When viewed in person, the grape clusters show a far greater range in color hues and nuances to the glass than seen in the catalogue photograph.
