Condition
The canvas has been lined.
There is some paint shrinkage in some of the thick white impasto to the ground and some lines of hairline craquelure throughout - however this appears to be stable. Ultra-violet light reveals scattered strokes of retouching to the aforementioned craquelure, notably in the three figures and around the birds to the lower right and to the centre of the composition. Horizontal clusters of retouching, possibly corresponding to old repairs, are visible to the waist (circa 20cm) and to the cloak (circa 7cm) of the main figure and to either side of the lower edge of her cloak, to the child's coat and to the woman's dress to the right. Strokes of retouching are also visible along the lower framing edge. The picture is otherwise ready to hang.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
