Condition

Unlined; small restoration faintly visible at upper left in cherub's upper wing and this corresponds to a small repair on the reverse, stretcher bar marks are also visible in areas. Under UV: Inconsistencies in pigment fluoresce in upper potion of cherub's wing.

Allegory of Music is part of a series by Paul-François Quinsac on the theme of the Arts. Two other pictures from this group are known, their dimensions are the same as the present work, and they are all dated 1896. The first is Allegory of Painting (sold in these rooms, October 13, 1993, lot 83), and the second is Allegory of Sculpture, (sold in these rooms, October 12, 1994, lot 175).
