Description
- Arthur Hoffmann
- Saint George and the Dragon
- signed: Artur Hoffmann fec and: Artur Hoffmann, and the base inscribed: SANCT GEORG
- bronze, gold, dark brown and green-brown patina, on a stone base
Condition
Overall, the condition of the bronze is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some rubbing to the patina, particularly at the high points, notably the Saint’s face and chest. Saint George's lance is very slightly warped, and is loose. There is a minor stable fissure to the top of the lance, and there is some residue to the bottom of the lance where it used to be attached. The reins of the horse's bridle are composed of individual links: one link on the proper left side is loose, and the middle link on the proper right side has a slightly open, but stable, joint. There is a very small hole to the top of St George's head. There are some nicks and scratches to the bronze, notably to St George's chest, and the horse's proper left side.
There are some chips and scratches to the stone base, particularly to the edges.
