Condition

Overall the condition of the marble is excellent, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few very slight dirt marks, notably to the breast, the proper right shoulder, the proper left upper arm and to the proper left side of the neck. There are some chips to the bottom corners of the base. There is a very small area of minor scratching to the lower back.

Catalogue Note

Gino and Fiorenzo Pugi, sons of Florentine sculptor Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915), had a large international client base. They continued the workshop of their father in Florence, first as 'Guglielmo Pugi e figli', and renaming it 'Fratelli G. e F. Pugi' after 1935. The present marble, signed Pugi Freres probably indicates it was intended for a French client.
