Catalogue Note
Alfredo Morelli was active in Florence, where he studied at the Institute of Art. As a student, he was able to participate in several international exhibitions, including in Antwerp and Haarlem. In 1898, Morelli is recorded to have participated in a competition to design the funerary monument of Rossini in Santa Croce in Florence. The combination of bronze and marble in the present sculpture shows Morelli's readiness to experiment with different techniques and materials.
