Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few minor nicks and scratches, including to the horse's back. A joint is slightly visible around the proper right back hoof. There is particular dust to the crevices of the terrasse.

Catalogue Note

The prestigious Barbédienne foundry acquired the model for the Cheval Turc after Barye's death in 1875. The gold FB stamp on the present model indicates this to have been part of the first posthumous series executed by the foundry.
