Catalogue Note
Roger Godchaux belonged to a late generation of animalier sculptors who followed in the footsteps of the great Romantic exponents of the genre, whilst adding an impressionistic vitality of their own. Godchaux was a student of Gerome, and started exhibiting in the Salon from 1905. Active until 1958, his decorative bronzes of high quality have continued to be popular on the art market.
