Condition

Overall good condition consistent with age and use. The white painted exterior has been touched up as can be witnessed under ultra violet light, concentrated mainly to the outer edges and base, however the majority of the original paint is intact and displays craquelere consistent with a finish of this age. A hairline to the top left proper rear of the cabinet approximately 7 cm running vertically and appears stable. The lock is later stamped with the rosemark of the Wiener Werkstätte twice and there are two associated keys.

Catalogue Note

A comparable cabinet designed for Dr Hermann Wittgenstein by Josef Hoffmann for the Wiener Werkstätte, with double doors and without the superstructure, but with a similar profiled front in black and white, is in the collection of the Museum für Angewandte Kunst (MAK), Vienna. This aesthetic choice, as well as the 'T' model cabinet, was frequently used by Hoffmann and Moser in the early years of the Wiener Werkstätte.
