Catalogue Note

It is highly likely that Eugène Soleau drew his inspiration from the celebrated sculptor Emmanuel Fremiet (1824-1910) for this chandelier. The entwined dragon and beshimi mask composition on the present model are mirrored in a chandelier created by Fremiet and commissioned by the architect Emile Vaudremer (1829-1914) for Hotel Dervillé now in the permanent collection of the Musée d’Orsay, Paris (OAO 1651). The Fremiet chandelier is composed of a entwined Boa around the stem terminating with a beshimi mask.
