Condition
Overall in good condition and very good presentation. The details are very finely carved. Note that the desk is fitted with a writing slide platform. 3 original keys. When one look at the crest from the back, one can notice a restored vertical break with residue of glue, however it is not a break which is obvious at first sight when looking at the piece from its front. There are some stable wood worm holes to the legs but there are not excessive. Overall with the usual minutes scratches and nicks consistent with age and use. Very few chips and losses to tips of leaves.

Catalogue Note
It is interesting to note an intricately carved fruitwood secrétaire mounted with porcelain plaques by Alphonse Giroux and exhibited at the 1855 Exhibition Universelle, Paris with a closely related outline to the present lot. This secrétaire was purchased by Empress Eugénie and is now in the permanent collection of the National Museum Château de Compiègne. For more information on Guéret Frères see lot 129
