Condition

In overall good condition, with typical old marks and scratches. The swags to the pediment has a minor loss and one is loose which may benefit from professional attention. The moulding to the front door has one restored break, which is unnoticeable. The ivory to the interior has some minor discolouration. The cameos are sharper and more defined than they appear in the printed catalogue image. With one key that opens the exterior and interior doors.

Catalogue Note

Charles Hunsinger (1823-1893) was first recorded as a cabinet maker specialising in ‘meuble de luxe et de fantasie’ in the Paris Almanac of 1859. The company participated in the Paris Exhibitions of 1865, 1867, 1878 and 1879. In the Brussels Exhibition of 1881 he was awarded the Gold Medal for excellence of craftsmanship. His work is in the permanent collections of the Musée D’Orsay, Paris and the Vienna Art Museum
