Catalogue Note

Whilst the offered vase is unsigned, the palette of the painting can be compared to a pair of similar scale, though different in form, painted with flowers on a similar celadon shaded opaque-white ground which are marked 'Baccarat de 1er Juillet 1868' in gilding, sold: Sotheby's London, 25 November 1997, lot 458, whilst the bird specimens are similar to a further vase painted with feeding Herons, unmarked but dated 30 November 1870, sold: Sotheby's Belgravia, 18 January 1973, lot 24.
