painted in a fugitive gold lustre fired to light brown, with stylised large moths among thick foliage against an uneven dark ground, cockerel mark in blue

Condition

A Cantagalli faience vase, circa 1900 It seems likely that this was intended to be gold lustre, perhaps on a dark blue ground, and has over-fired to the present colours. Perhaps the resulting colour scheme was thought attractive enough in its own right to be sold.
