Description
- Tiffany Studios
- "Moth" Lamp Screen
- leaded glass and patinated bronze chain
Condition
Overall in very good condition. This lamp screen has recently been conserved by a professional Tiffany conservator to stabilize a small area of separation to the leading. The lamp screen with approximately 4 hairline cracks dispersed throughout both wings. These hairlines were recently stabilized, which also served to minimize their appearance. The leading is beautifully rendered with refined lines and displays a particularly rich green patina. The hooks and chain appear to be original. An outstanding example distinguished by a highly artistic glass selection and use of iridescent Cypriote glass to accent passages of the wings. When viewed firsthand the favrile glass is richer and more nuanced in coloration than seen in the catalogue illustration, which is slightly over saturated. Most notably the nuance and range of hues seen in the iridescent Cypriote glass accents are not sufficiently captured in the catalogue illustration. This screen has a curvilinear-shaped profile and is not flat as it appears in the catalogue illustration.
