Condition
Overall in very good condition. The shade with approximately 70 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout, all which appear stable. This is a relatively low number in proportion to the vast number of individual small glass tiles which were required to execute this complex lamp pattern. The shade leading is beautifully rendered and displays a particularly rich russet brown and green patina. The shade shows an elegant color transition in the blossoms from cadmium yellow to softer yellow and orange tones complemented by saturated cobalt blue accents in the background passages. The patinated bronze surfaces of the base display a rich and deep russet brown and green patina. The base patina appears to have been sensitively waxed and with an area at the mid-section of the base standard where the patina appears to have been sensitively enhanced to resolve gentle rubbing. The bronze surfaces throughout with some occasional light surface scratches and surface abrasions, all consistent with age and gentle handling. All of the six sockets and paddle switches appear to be original and undisturbed. The finial appears to be replaced, showing a complementary patina to the base with gentle surface wear and a few very minor and shallow bruises to the lower perimeter border. A beautiful example of the Laburnum model, displaying one of the most harmonious and desirable shade and base pairings and a highly artistic and naturalistic glass selection. When viewing this lamp firsthand, the colors are more varied and nuanced than seen in the catalogue illustrations. The catalogue photography does not fully capture the luminosity and richness of the glass selection or the pictorial depth of the shade.
