Description

  • stoneware and paulownia wood
the deep rounded sides rising from a short tapered foot to a gently incurved rim, the interior inlaid in black and white slip with a chrysanthemum spray in the centre, encircled by three boys holding a fruiting spray at the well, the exterior with a keyfret border around the rim, applied overall with a sea-green glaze, Japanese wood box; together with an inlaid celadon washer, Japanese wood box

Condition

Cup: There is a 1.8cm crack to the rim, with a 2.7cm glaze crack running off it to the interior and a 6mm crack running off it to the exterior. There is crackle to the glaze to the interior and exterior to one side. Washer: This is in good condition, but does have areas of glaze crackle and it is slightly mis-shaped.
