Large oblong folio (388 x 680mm.), 39 albumen prints (each approximately 209 x 566mm.), individually mounted on card, recto only, most captioned in manuscript ink in Persian, some captioned in French in pencil (captions cropped by the binder), near contemporary citron morocco gilt (uniform with lot 70), gilt edges, binding rubbed and marked
Provenance
Dost Mohammed Khan, a prince of the royal house of Persia, an important amateur photographer, collector and traveller, who acquired a substantial collection of photographs during a tour of Egypt and Europe in the years 1883 to 1884 (cf. lot 269, sale in these rooms, "The Library of a Gentleman", 11 October 2005)
