Acquis par la mère des propriétaires actuels à la fin des années 1940 ou au début des années 1950.

Condition

The painting has been re-lined. Under UV light, a certain number of repaints are visible on the ground in the foreground and in the background in the architecture and the sky. Filled-in cracks are a little visible. The person on the right's coat and right leg have a few light retouches. Two vertical long thin cracks appear by the red horse's neck and by the man standing in the middle. Another crack touches the white horse. Small retouches are visible between its front legs and back legs, and on its ribs. A few small retouches appear in the lad's vest on the left. The painting is presented in a nice canal-shaped frame.

Catalogue Note

Elève de son père Carle Vernet et passionné comme lui de chevaux, Horace Vernet peint dans ses années d'apprentissage plusieurs intérieurs d'écuries et des haltes aux chevaux. Ainsi, il expose au Salon de Paris en 1812 Intérieur d'écurie polonaise, Intérieur d'écurie cosaque et Intérieur d'un vieux château servant d'écurie à des Polonais rejoignant l'armée.
