Condition

This work is in good condition. It is composed of numerous found plastic objects, showing surface dirt. It appears to be the artist's intention that the work will deteriorate slowly over time due to the nature of materials used. This work is installed on a temporary painted wooden support based on previous installation photographs. The work has been assembled one piece at a time.

Catalogue Note

“I don’t want to glorify plastic. It’s an interesting material because it is in many ways so far away from the organic, natural world that it actually underlies very strongly the problem of all man-made substances. It’s the extreme case: the natural world is almost at the other end of the scale. The problem is more or less the same to varying degrees with all the artificial object world” (Tony Cragg, interviewed by Lynne Cooke in Exh. Cat., Hayward Gallery, Tony Cragg, London, 1987, p. 16).
