each of the four sides similarly cast in low relief with panels enclosing honeycomb diaper patterns, abstract archaistic motifs, phoenix against a wave ground, and geometric patterns, two sides set with opposing taotie mask loop handles

The abstract archaistic motifs seen on the body of this vase are also found on the body of a Song / Yuan dynasty vase from the collection of Ulrich Hausmann, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 8th October 2014, lot 3385; a similar vase dated to the Song dynasty sold in the same sale, lot 3398.
