Catalogue Note

The iconic wave-form curl pattern which extends from the widow's peak to the high jatamukata, together with the U-shaped robe collar around the neck of Buddha, suggest a Sahri Bahlol provenance; compare these attributes with a grey schist Buddha in the Peshawar Museum, see Isao Kurita, Gandharan Art II: The World of Buddha, Tokyo, 2003, p. 81, cat. no. 206.
