the bombĂ© body rising to a flared rim flanked by yoke handles, the exterior covered in an olive-greenish-brown patina with some gilt splashes, the base cast with an apocryphal six-character Xuande mark

Collection of Alfred Max Panofsky (1899-1973), Germany, and thence by descent.

Condition

The censer is in overall good condition with the expected wear to the surface due to age. Over time the patina has become mottled as visible in the catalogue image.The base has been polished.
