Description
- wool pile
- approximately 561 by 335cm; 18ft. 5in., 11ft.
Condition
Overall measurements: 320cm across the top, 335cm across the bottom, 561cm along left side, 551cm along right side Vertically through the middle 558cm.
(nice handle), The pile overall generally 2-3mm, with some areas with wear commensurate with age e.g. wear down to foundation for example in top right corner of main field, centre far right main field affecting the blue ground and also the bottom lower right and areas up the main axis again to pale blue, and also to the green within the lozenges and centres of small floral motifs. There is also some tinting and cobbled repairs within the lozenges. There are areas of repair either side of the upper large palmette. Losses to both ends, not overlocked, small sections of reweave within outer border, for example centre of top border. Original side cords with some losses exposing foundation cords. Small dark marks. Overall in sound usable condition, might benefit from a light surface clean and overlocking of ends. A very unusual design as is overall, (i.e. without spandrels or medallion) and the red and white leaf trellis is also an unusual feature. Good wide border with nicely spaced palmettes. A very decorative carpet.
