Catalogue Note

"...Charles Manson should be made a General..."

A revealing and unpublished set of responses to the questions of a young fan, Barbara Clark (for whom see next lot), written when Lennon was working on Imagine. This was also the period of Lennon's greatest political engagement: a question related to the aftermath of the My Lai massacre elicited the caustic comment quoted above, when asked what he would like to say to today's young people he answers that "Communists are people too!", and he also encourages the "peace club" to join the upcoming May Day Protest in Washington, DC.
