Catalogue Note
The appearance of Jack's handwritten musical notation for The Beatles' 'Love Me Do' indicates that this notebook was with him as he prepared for one of his tours with Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band. Jack joined the line-up, which has changed continually since Ringo formed the band in 1989, as part of the "fourth" All-Starr Band, and remained a member of both the "fifth" and "sixth", touring with them each year until 2000. 'Love Me Do' first featured on the set list for the All-Starrs in their 1998 tour.
The second arrangement for a known song in this notebook - for 'Once I Loved (O Amor En Paz)' made famous by Frank Sinatra - strongly suggests Jack was using this book in the period 1997-1998, his first tour with Ringo. In 1998, he recorded a version of 'Once I Loved' in London with Gary Husband playing the piano accompaniment to his haunting vocal.
