Catalogue Note

Jack began recording for his follow up solo album as soon as Songs for a Tailor had been released. Working with a smaller group of musicians than he had on the previous album, Jack was able to showcase his own skills on numerous instruments besides the bass and piano, including cello, acoustic guitar, percussion, harmonica and the organ.

In 2003, the album was re-released with five additional tracks, largely first takes and demo versions. The lyrics in an early recording of 'There's a Forest' correspond very closely those of this draft manuscript ("There's a sea that is neglected | Where the starfish are your [like] eyes"), which changed significantly in the final recorded version. Both of these manuscripts also include several additional draft verses which were discarded for the final tracks.
