Condition

This print, on double-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally very good condition. A few deposits of expertly-applied original retouching can be found at the lower left corner. There is a mottled quality in the sky area that is visible in the catalogue illustration. This mottling appears as a pale warm tone and is not as noticeable in the bottom half of the image. There are a few small creases at the center right and center left margin edges that do not appear to break the emulsion. There are a few light stains and areas of discoloration on the reverse of the print. '© Robert Frank' is written in an unidentified hand in ink and 'NYUAC #8 1993.6.3,' '6-224,' and '122' are written in pencil. Two labels have been removed from the back of the print and relocated to the inside of the mat. A long slender label reads 'NYU LAW #3 P/K A-21 (VIII)' and a neon green circular label reads 'P/K A-21 (VIII).' This photograph has undergone conservation, and a treatment report is available upon request from the department. It is believed that only 5 other prints of this image have previously been offered at auction.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
