Catalogue Note
A bamboo washer of lotus leaf form in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, sharing certain stylistic traits with the current washer is illustrated by Chi Jo-hsin, Uncanny Ingenuity and Celestial Feats. The Carvings of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Bamboo, Wood and Fruit Stones, Taipei, 2010, cat. no. 8. Both pay intricate attention to the natural undulating form of the flowers, skilfully conveying the manner in which the petals form and extend out from the buds.
