The complete portfolio, comprising 96 etchings, hors-texte, and 11 etched vignettes, en-texte, with text by Nicolas Gogol, 1948, signed in black ink on the justification, numbered 68, from the total edition of 368, loose (as issued), on Arches wove paper with the Les Ames Mortes watermark, with title and text, published by Tériade, Paris, contained in the original paper-covered boards and slipcase
Condition
With full margins, in good condition, apart from pale uneven discoloration on the etching versos, occasionally showing through in the image recto, areas of minor surface soiling in the margins or sheet versos, a pressure mark in the centre of the upper margins of some sheets, the paper wrappers with scattered foxing, an infrequent scuff mark on the boards and slipcase.
