Condition
This early ferrotyped print, with its remarkable tonal range, sharpness, and detail, is on single-weight paper and is in generally very good condition. There is some sharp creasing in the upper left margin corner and in the lower portion of the print, with a pinpoint disruption of the emulsion at the lower left. Under examination in raking light, some of the characteristics of ferrotyping are presentnamely, small and insignificant pitting of the surface.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.

Catalogue Note
This early press print was created in conjunction with The Museum of Modern Art exhibition, Memorable Photographs by LIFE Photographers. The exhibition was held in November and December 1951 to celebrate the magazine's 15th anniversary. Comprising 187 photographs by 63 photographers selected by Edward Steichen, MoMA's Director of the Department of Photography, the exhibition traveled to other museums throughout the United States.
