Description

  • Aaron Siskind
  • Gloucester 1H (Glove)
  • Gelatin silver print
flush-mounted, signed, dated, and inscribed in ink on the reverse, 1944, printed no later than 1956 (Chiarenza, Pleasures and Terrors, p. 117, fig. 129)

Provenance

The photographer to the artist and educator Emerson Woelffer, 1956

Gift of the above, circa 1990, to the present owner, a photographer and educator

Condition

This photograph, trimmed to the image and flush-mounted, is in generally very good condition. In raking light, the following are visible: a barely perceptible scratch in the upper central portion of the image; scattered tiny deposits of original retouching; and small impressions that do not appear to break the emulsion. There is minor edge wear. None of the above are visible at a normal viewing distance and do not detract from the overall appearance of this fine print. The reverse of the mount is inscribed by the photographer: 'Xmas, 1956. Greetings! and love Cathy + Aaron--+ dying to see you again. When? A.'
