Condition

The photographs and printed contents are generally clean, crisp, and in excellent condition. In raking light, a few deposits of original retouching are visible on some of the photographs. Insignificant soiling from handling is visible near the edges on some of the pages. The publisher's letterpress prospectus is loosely inserted, and has faint foxing, soiling, and a horizontal crease. The front and back marbled endpapers are a vibrant red-orange. The orange linen boards are lightly soiled and faded, and there are two small adhesive remains. The corners and extremities are worn. There is some liquid staining to the morocco spine, and the raised bands are rubbed. The book is housed in a modern buckram cloth clamshell box, with gilt-stamped leather title on the spine. The plates are as follows: North House (Hlauuma) South House (Hlaukwima) A Man of Taos Ruins of Old Church New Church Girl of Taos North House (End View) South House, Harvest Old Man of Taos South House, Woman Winnowing Grain North House, Kiva, and Thunder Clouds - There is faint, mottled discoloration in the right margin, which does not appear to affect the image. Church at Ranchos de Taos
