Description

  • Peter Beard
  • 'Gerenuks Grazing, Kenya N. F. D.'
  • Gelatin silver print
signed, titled, dated, and annotated 'for The End of the Game/Last Word from Paradise,' in ink in the margin, affixed at the edges to a backboard, framed, 1960, possibly printed later

Condition

This print, on double-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally good to very good condition. Because of the methodology employed to affix the photograph to the backboard, there is slight waviness in the paper. The edges are rubbed, and the corners are bumped and creased. The margins are lightly soiled. 'Orig art' is in the upper margin in ink, and 'Top Left' is in red china marker or crayon in the lower margin. None of these affects the image. In raking light, slight silvering and minor creasing that does not appear to break the emulsion are visible.
