Description
- Brassaï
- 'Fille de Joie du Quartier Italie dans une Robe Printanière'
- Gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, the photographer's studio, copyright, and 'Tirage de l'Auteur' stamps and with title, date, and numerical notations in pencil and ink on the reverse, framed, 1931, probably printed in the late 1950s or early 1960s (Secret Paris of The Thirties, unpaginated)
Condition
This ferrotyped print is in generally very good condition. As is typical of ferrotyped prints, in raking light surface scratches and pitting are pervasive throughout the image. Also visible in high raking light are fingerprints, several sharp creases in the corners and along the edges, and impressions from the notations on the reverse of the print. These issues are characteristic of the majority of Brassai's pre-1970s prints.
This print is trimmed to the image, and there is some wear and chipping to the edges and corners. The paper is wavy. The photographer's studio and copyright stamps on the reverse of the print are as follows: '81, Rue du Faub.-St-Jacques, Paris-XIV - PORt-Royal 23-41' and '81, Faubourg St-Jacques, Paris 14eme Tél 707.23.41.' On the reverse, 'pp. 3267' is written in an unidentified hand in ink. Along the lower edge on the reverse are two paper-tape hinge remnants.
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce somewhat.
