Description
- Brassaï
- 'Musicien Aveugle à la Cabane Cubaine'
- Gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, signed, titled, and dated in pencil, annotations in pencil and ink, and with the photographer's 'Gyula Halasz' copyright/studio stamp on the reverse, framed, 1932-33
Condition
This ferrotyped print is in generally very good condition. In high raking light, 2 faint, long, diagonal creases are visible in the lower portion of the image. Also visible in raking light are a few deposits of original retouching, fingerprints, and impressions from the notations on the reverse of the print. These issues are characteristic of the majority of Brassaï's pre-1970s prints.
This print is trimmed to the image, and there is minuscule edge chipping. The corners are rounded, and the tips of the upper corners are creased. The reverse of the print is soiled. The following is written in an unidentified hand in pencil or ink on the reverse: 'PL. 463' and 'Tirage par Brassaï: Madame G. Brassaï.' The photographer's stamp reads as follows: 'Photo Brassaï, Copyright by Gyula Halasz, 74 Rue de la Glacière, Paris (18).'
When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
