Description

  • Berenice Abbott
  • 'CORLEARS STREET, #3-5'
  • Gelatin silver print
the photographer's ’50 Commerce St.’ studio and Federal Art Project 'Changing New York' stamps and with title, date, and annotations in ink on the reverse, 1937 (Yochelson, Lower East Side, pl. 15)

Condition

This early contact print, on lightly-textured, double-weight paper with a faint surface sheen, is in generally excellent condition. As is characteristically seen in Abbott's 'Changing New York' prints from the period, there are small clamp impressions in the black margins from processing. There is a linear impression in the upper margin. The corners are bumped. The reverse of the print is lightly soiled and appropriately age-darkened at the edges. The reverse is annotated with the following information: 'Corlears Street, #3-5, Manhattan Neg - 213 - Code IA-2 3/4/37'
