Description

  • Duane Michals
  • 'PORTRAIT OF ANDY WARHOL'
  • Gelatin silver prints
a sequence of 3 photographs, the first signed, titled, dated, and editioned '7/25,' the second and third numbered sequentially, in ink in the margin, each annotated in pencil on the reverse, 1973 (Album, unpaginated) (3)

Condition

These photographs are in generally excellent condition. A few minuscule deposits of original retouching are visible upon very close examination in raking light. On the third print, there is a tiny accretion near the upper edge of the image. The margin edges are worn and rubbed. The right edges of the first and third prints are slightly unevenly trimmed with some attendant hairline creasing. The prints are variously numerically annotated in pencil on the reverse. Brown and white paper tape remnants along the upper and lower edges on the reverse of the prints suggest that the photographs were previously hinged together in sequence.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
