Description

  • Robert Frank
  • 'NYC' (SAGAMORE CAFETERIA)
  • gelatin silver print
signed, titled, and dated in ink in the margin, 1954, printed later (Moving Out, pp. 132-33)

Condition

This print is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, a few small sharp creases are visible: one in the lower right portion of the image; one in the lower margin; and a few in the upper margin, one of which intrudes into the image ever so slightly. None of these appear to break the emulsion. The upper margin is slightly rippled. The reverse is lightly soiled along the right edge. Also on the reverse, the numbers '10-48' and '#231' are written in an unidentified hand in pencil. While 'Moving Out' dates this image from 1955, Frank has dated this print '1954' in the margin. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
