Condition

Overall the condition of the enamel is good with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is stable crizzling to areas of the green enamel of the grass and mountain. There is some stable craquelure to the turqoise of the tomb near Christ's hand. There are small areas of restoration to the upper and lower right corners. There is some slight pitting around the right half of the plaque. The gilding on the frame is worn and scratched throughout. Otherwise the condition of the frame is excellent. It can be suspended and has a stand.

Catalogue Note

As is so often the case with painted enamels representing scenes from the life of Christ, this Entombment is inspired by a woodcut from Albrecht Dürer's Small Passion.
