  • ivory, on an ebonised wood cross with gilt metal mounts

Condition

Overall the condition of the ivory is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The figure is composed in sections; original joints are visible at the shoulders. There is some stable splitting to the ivory consistent with the material, including a large open split at the proper left shoulder, another slightly open split running down the proper left side of the torso, and splits to the head and face. The wood cross is composed in sections; joints are visible. There is some flaking to the paint and some wear to the edges. There is wear to the gilding on the metal mounts. The ivory is attached to the cross with metal pins and screws. There is a metal hook for hanging at the back of the cross.
