Provenance
Christie's London, 2 July 1991, lot 45
Condition
Overall the condition of the bronze is good with wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is minor rubbing to the lacquer patina, notably at the high points and the woman's proper left side, arm, and back. In a few of the areas the patina has assumed a slightly greenish colour, and there is also a minor area of greening to the hair on the proper left side. There are a few fissures and lacunae to the bronze, consistent with the casting process, including to the woman's hair at the back, her lower back, her proper left ankle, Cupid's proper left wing, and the proper right side of her abdomen where the figure of Cupid is joined. A few original cast bronze repairs are inserted into the bronze, including at the woman's proper left shoulder blade, her proper right arm and shoulder, and Cupid's proper right leg. There are a few minor nicks and scratches, including to the woman's abdomen and proper left side.
