- Two plaques with The Arrest of Christ and Christ before Pilate
- partially gilt painted enamel on copper, in a gilt wood frame
- French, Limoges, late 16th/ early 17th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the enamels is good with wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age.
Arrest of Christ: There are restorations to the upper corners and the bottom right corner. There is some craquelure, in particular to the corners and to the left side. There is a fissure to the metal running through the cloak of the man with the sword at the legs through to the falling man's knee. Craquelure has caused a small loss to the head of the figure to the right of the sword. There is wear to the gilding with some ghosting, notably to the stars. There are a few minor scratches. There is craquelure and an area of loss to the counter enamel at the back.
Christ before Pilate: There are losses to the bottom right and the top left corners, and there is a split with some losses to the top right corner. There are a few very minor losses around the edges. There is some wear to the gilding, including ghosting, including to the stars and the architecture. There are a few minor scratches, and there is a circular indentation near the bottom.
The wood frames are in good condition with some dirt and wear. There is wear to the gilding including craquelure, and there is some stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material.
