  • gilt wood mounted with rice pastiglia, lined with cloth

Condition

Overall the condition of the casket is good with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The pastiglia has rubbed smooth at the high points throughout. There are a few minor losses, including to the knop, animals on the lid, and edges of the lid, the snout of Actaeon and part of the head of one of the nude bathers, parts of the lion, the fountain, and around the catch on the front, and around the feet. The cloth interior is worn thin and discoloured throughout. There is a round hole in the underside. There are remnants of a label on the inside of the lid and to the underside.
