Description
- Eagle from a lectern
- bronze, on a black marble base
- South German or Netherlandish, circa 1500
Provenance
private collection, Ghent
Condition
Overall the condition of the bronze is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The eagle's feet have been reattached using glue, and the joint at the proper left ankle is not fully aligned. There is a loss to the middle claw on the proper left foot. There is particular dirt in the crevices and there are a few green marks, notably to the bird's neck, the inside of the proper right wing and the tail. There are holes to the back of the eagle's head and to both wings at the top. There are a few nicks and scratches, notably to the tops of the wings and the top of the eagle's head.
The modern black marble base is in very good condition with minor dirt and wear.
