Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good with wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age. There is a lacquer to the surface throughout. The saint's proper right thumb and two of the arms of the children have been reattached. The staff has been reattached in several places, with glue residue visible, and is slightly loose at the joint in the middle. A section of wood at the proper left shoulder and arm appears to have been reattached, with some restoration material visible. There is minor stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material, which is particularly visible at the back. There are several chips and abrasions, notably at some of the high points, and in particular at the back, where the varnish has chipped around the hood and there is some splitting and craquelure. There is minor evidence of past worming, including at the back of the neck. The revolving wood base is in good condition with some wear to the edges and minor stable splitting.
