  • South East Netherlandish, early 16th century

Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The Child's head appears to be reattached; the joint is slightly open at the back. The Child's nose, toes, and fingers on the proper right hand are lost. There is a possible loss to St Christopher's proper right foot, as there is a wide hole to the base around the ankle with some glue residue. There is stable splitting to the wood consistent with the material, including a split running down the Christ Child's proper left side and St Christopher's head and another running around St Christopher's proper left lower leg. There is non-active worming visible at the back and at the base. There is an open knot in the wood at the bottom of the cloak at the back with a wood insert. There is a round wood insert to St Christopher's proper left arm at the back. There are two holes to the back. There are a few minor chips and abrasions to the edges of the drapery.
