Condition
Overall the condition of the wood is good with wear and some dirt to the surface consistent with age. The proper left hand is carved separately and detaches. There are a few losses, including to the index and ring fingers on the proper left hand, and to the tip of the thumb on the proper right hand. There is evidence of past worming throughout, in particular to the mitre (with particular losses at the top), around the collar, and at the bottom. Judging by the nature of the worming the figure was once polychromed. The polychromy is likely to have been removed in the 19th century and a later of lacquer has been applied to the wood. There are a few small metal pins in the wood, possibly to cover holes. There is some stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material, including to the mitre and forehead, the neck and chest (where there is a minor loss) and the bottom of the drapery and the base. There are a few nicks and chips, including to the towers of the church. There is a larger chip to the base on the right side. There are a few small naturally occurring knots in the wood, including to a fold of drapery at the front around the midriff. Some splitting and non-active worming is also visible at the back.
