Condition

Overall the condition of the wood is good with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Two sections of wood have been inserted at the top and at the bottom of the outer frame. There is wear including flaking to the gilding and polychromy throughout, in particular to Christ's body and to the Virgin's face and drapery. The polychromy may be refreshed in areas. There is minor non-active working, particularly to the back. The framed aureola is attached to the figure with a metal screw, visible at the back. There are three holes for mounting to the back, one with remnants of a metal pin.

Catalogue Note

A closely related small Marianum attributed to a sculptor from Utrecht and dated to the first quarter of the 16th century is in the Catherijneconvent.
